Professor Wally Jay - Alameda, California
In 1947 Wally Jay became a California Western States life insurance salesman. He never attended a sales seminar and in 10 months of sales, he was ranked the number one first year agent and ranked number 20 overall. Wally won many awards offered by the company after his second year of sales and was earning good money for his family. He shocked his wife, Bernice when he informed her that he was quitting his job as an insurance agent and was going to concentrate his energy in the martial arts and his post office job. It was a difficult move especially after making big commissions from selling his life insurance policies. The sales work had interfered with his martial arts training and goals. It was very difficult for him to work two jobs and teach his martial art classes on a full time basis. At that time it looked like a bad sacrifice but martial arts was Wally Jay’s life and it was something he needed to do for his own peace of mind.
