Small Circle Jujitsu

In Memory of Peter Aldridge

It is with great sadness I must inform you that Peter Aldridge, a serving British soldier, died whilst on active duty on Friday 22nd January 2010. He was just 19 years of age. Peter, son of Andy and Caroline Aldridge, was killed by an improvised explosive device whilst serving his country and was the 250th British soldier to […]

“Practise makes Perfect”

Leon Jay and the continuing development of the Small Circle Concept At the beginning of the 21st century many martial artists are questioning their abilities to apply their chosen arts, to reconcile the classical with the practicalities of modern life.  It is unsurprisingly difficult therefore, to find instructors able to teach us to walk that […]

Professor Wally Jay and the Scientific Application of Small Circle Jujitsu

As with many of the articles John Mellon has written on Profs. Wally and Leon and the Small Circle Jujitsu system, this was prompted by one of Prof. Wally’s visits to the UK.  It first appeared in Traditional Karate (May 1995). Download the article : Traditional Karate (May 1995)

Leon Jay – just another scion of a famous house?

This article, published first in Traditional Karate (June 2000), was part of establishing Prof. Leon Jay’s extensive martial arts background for a wider UK audience, his inheritance of his father’s mantle, and why it was far from automatic that he would become the Second Generation leader. A Knockout Seminar

Since 1987, when John Mellon first brought Prof. Wally Jay to the UK to teach, Prof. Leon Jay and John hosted seminars by Prof. Wally many times.  The featured article was published first in Traditional Karate magazine (Jan 1994) and reports one of Prof. Wally Jay’s seminar trips to the UK – on this occasion […]

Small Circle Adds Another Ring

This article was first published in Inside Kung Fu magazine (Nov 1999) featuring an interview with Prof. Leon Jay; it reprises some of the history of Small Circle and concentrates on introducing a wider audience to the Second Generation Head of the system. A Lethal Mix

Fighting Arts International magazine – sadly no longer with us – was the most professional and highly technical martial arts magazine we have had in the UK and probably the nearest equivalent to the best US imprints, such as IKF/IK and Black Belt.  John Mellon was enormously pleased to be asked to write on Small […]

Small Circle Jujitsu is a precise and practical system that I often taught to my soldiers. What I like most about Small Circle is speed; soldiers in combat situations need to resolve an encounter quickly and Small Circle Jujitsu training fits that need.
